Industrial Tour to Bargi Hydro Thermal Power Plant – Mangalayatan University Jabalpur

Date: 17 November 2025

In a bid to foster the drive for industry-oriented learning and provide practical exposure to large-scale operations, an educational industrial tour has been organized by Mangalayatan University, Jabalpur, for its students of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at the Bargi Hydro-Thermal Power Plant on Monday. This visit helped to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and real industrial functioning. Students were received very warmly by technical experts and administrative heads, who briefed them on the history of the power plant, its operational significance, and its prime importance towards fulfilling the region’s demands for electricity. Other key aspects, including hydro and thermal power production, safety regulations, environmental compliance, and organizational hierarchy, were also elaborated upon in detail.

The students, then, under strict safety supervision, were taken to the operational areas of the plant. They were taken to view the central control room, turbine and boiler sections, cooling systems, units concerned with safety and compliance, and finally the maintenance areas. This walk-through exposure gave them first-hand experience with the control and electrical output monitoring, performance of machinery, and technical precision needed to operate a facility that generates power. The study tour also yielded valuable managerial insights. Officials discussed organizational coordination, budget allocation, cost management, human resource practices, and supply chain mechanisms that support the continuous functioning of the plant. Workforce training, shift planning, raw material procurement, and sustainability practices like pollution control and energy conservation received emphasis.

Operational challenges, government policies affecting the power sector, hybrid energy systems, and career prospects in energy management, operation, and administration were explained through an interactive question-and-answer session. The officials called upon students to explore opportunities in the power industry while saying that skilled management professionals are increasingly in demand. The accompanying faculty members termed the tour as immensely fruitful, elaborating that this sort of industrial exposure fortifies analytic thinking, enhances practical understanding, and helps students correlate on-ground operations with concepts taught in the classroom. They further added that regular visits to industries form a part of the curriculum at Mangalayatan University in order to make its students industry-ready.

They further explained that the tour was quite informative, offering a good platform for understanding large-scale industries with regard to team coordination and managerial decision-making. Students indicated that this widened their scope as far as career choices are concerned and motivated them toward seeking internships and eventual employment within the power and industrial sectors. The industrial tour to Bargi Hydro-Thermal Power Plant once again attests to the commitment of Mangalayatan University towards the goal of holistic and experiential learning.
